TRAVEL IN PERU

Inka Trail Expeditions Perú operates in regions where standards of accommodation, transport and services might not be those you would normally expect. However we strive, with all due care and skill, to provide the best services for our tourists. Travelling in Peru requires flexibility, patience, broad-mindedness, good humor and understanding that changes may be made without notice due to circumstances beyond our control (Force Majeure - see below). By booking any of our tours you agree to Inka Trail Expeditions Perú making necessary changes without liability.

FORCE MAJEURE

This is any event that Inka Trail Expeditions Perú could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid. This covers events such as war or threat, riot, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, disease, disaster or adverse weather conditions, fire or all similar events beyond our control. In this case, Inka Trail Expeditions Perú will not accept liability and reserves the right to change, postpone or even cancel the trip (this is the last option of course!).

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly advise you to get a travel insurance that covers accidents, medical expenses and emergency repatriation, including rescue and air ambulance. We also recommend that it covers cancellations and loss of luggage. Please forward a copy/ policy number to our offices.

RISKS

By booking any of our adventure trips in all our destinations (Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Salcantay trek, Ausangate, Choquekiraw, Lares trek, etc.) you assume the risks associated with them. For these Inka Trail Expeditions Perú accepts no responsibility.

SENDING YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS FOR BOOKING

Your passport number must be a valid one, please advise us if you have or will change your passport after booking the tour (Inca Trail and Machupicchu authorities are not very nice when checking passports at the control). ISIC card (if applicable) must also be valid at the time of commencing your Inca trail.

MAKING A RESERVATION

(Deposit for treks to Machu Picchu):

To secure a reservation of a tour package, it is necessary to make a payment of:
Adventure treks: a $250 non-refundable deposit per person is paid for any of our Inca Trail treks(Inka Trail, Lares Trek, Salkantay Trek, Inka Jungle Trail,Choquequiraw-Machupicchu, trips in Perú and all our destinations in and out Perú).

Student rate: in order to obtain this discount you must have a valid ISIC card. It is important that you scan and e-mail it to us at the time of booking.

Alternative Excursions in Peru such as Machupicchu, all Peru trips alternatives, etc...: 50% of TOTAL package cost is the deposit per person (non-refundable).

The balance will be paid upon arrival in Lima or the Cusco Office (only cash or Paypal will be accepted). All Transaction fees are covered by the client and are not included in our tours' prices.
Deposit can be done through:

HOLIDAY INCREMENTS

$40 per person is applicable to all groups, regardless of the size, that would leave during these holidays: Christmas (Dec 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th), New Year (Dec 29th, 30th, 31st, Jan 1st).
An increment is also applicable for groups that would leave during election days (people are fined here if they don't vote). In this case, we use the increment to pay staff a bonus for leaving on their holiday or to pay the penalties. *THE SAME INCREMENTS ARE APPLICABLE FOR ANY ALTERNATIVE GROUP OR PRIVATE TREK.

TWO NIGHTS BEFORE YOUR TREK THERE WILL BE A PRE-TREK TALK (BRIEFING) IN OUR OFFICE AT EITHER 6 OR 7 PM (THE EXACT TIME WILL BE CONFIRMED); THAT VERY SAME BRIEFING COULD BE HELD IN YOUR HOTEL UPON REQUEST.

PAYMENT OF FINAL BALANCE

We require you to pay your final balance in our offices at least 72 hours before your trek leaves. Currently, we accept cash in soles only (we used an exchange rate of $1 USA = 3.00 soles).

We maintain the right to cancel your trek upon failure to make payment in this time-frame if you have not previously advised of a delayed arrival etc.

If for any reason the Dollar Exchange rate might fall (as it did in 2009 and 2010), we will be flexible and accept up to 10 points drop difference but we will NOT be able to accept an exchange rate less than 3 Peruvian soles per 1 USA dollar, this in order to guarantee the quality of our services.

CANCELLATIONS

  •  Deposit sent for booking is Non-refundable or transferable.
  •  Inka Trail Expeditions Perú must be notified of any changes or cancellations to your trip as soon as you are aware of them, via e-mail or fax.
  •  Once final balance has been paid, we will not be able to refund your trek payment for any cancellations. However there will be parts of your trip that you are able to use in the future (Machu Picchu entrance fees, 1 train ticket, 1 bus ticket and others items that were included in the package).
  •  A claim letter for your insurance company can also be provided by us upon request.

VERY IMPORTANT(1): We strongly suggest staying at high altitude (above 3000 metres - in Cusco or another high altitude city) for a minimum of 3 days before beginning the trip. This is in order to minimize the effects of possible altitude sickness. Also, you can help your body acclimatize by drinking plenty of liquids, adding a bit more sugar to your drinks, eating food rich in carbohydrates, avoiding cigarettes and alcohol and drinking coca (ancient traditional leaf) tea. Diamox can also be helpful: please ask your doctor for prescription.

VERY IMPORTANT (2): It is also highly recommended that you arrive in Lima or Cusco (depending where you going to start your excursion with us) at least some 48 hours before your trek as in case of strikes or other events happening out of our control we might need to leave earlier than scheduled (see above Force Majure).
Please also bring your travel insurance information (company name and policy number) for our records.
